Excelsior Jones opened at the beginning of this year and it has definitely been the talk among foodies. Ashfield is not known for its cafes, so this little gem located among residential houses along Queen St, is making a name for itself.
Today was a cold and rainy day, so it was ideal to sit in a neat cozy cafe enjoying good food with a good friend. We arrived a bit after 1:30pm and the little cafe was packed with people. After 15 minutes or so we were lucky enough to get a table in the dining room.

Caramel Milkshake
The caramel milkshake was a bit watery, I expected it to be thicker but nonetheless it tasted good and it really satisified my milkshake cravings :)
Cheeseburger - Grass fed Angus beef, Gruyere, Tomato relish, Aioli, Fried spuds | $16
The winner of the cheeseburger dish was not the burger but the fried potato gems on the side! SO GOOD!! We liked it so much we even asked if we could order a separate plate of it, but unfortunately you can't :( The burger was just like an ordinary cheeseburger but the Angus beef was really soft and full of flavour. The tomato relish was a little bit overpowering but other than that it was an enjoyable dish. buttttttt the potatos were the BEST :D
Eggs Benedict - Black forest gypsy ham, hollandaise, celery salt | $14
The poached eggs were cooked to PERFECTION!! I was so happy when I cut it open and the yellow yolky goodness ran down, this was hands down one of the best eggs benedict that I have eaten. Everything on the plate balanced really well together.
Genius potato chips
Again- THE BEST POTATO CHIPS!! :D
Menu
The service was really good even though they were extremely busy, someone always assisted us when we needed help.
The price of the food is standard for cafe food and for the quality I think it was reasonable, however some people may find it a bit pricey. The bill came to a total of $40.50- but my tummy was happy... my wallet survived.
I was bit disappointed because they ran out of House Cured Salmon Hash and that was the one dish that I wanted to try but other than that I was very happy with the experience at Excelsior Jones :) I definitely will be back to try the many other dishes Excelsior Jones has to offer!
