I've heard a lot about The Grumpy Barista and seen heaps of photos of all their delicious dishes since they opened. I remember during the cronut craze The Grumpy Barista was one of the main places where you can get a range of insanely decorated cronuts. The hype of the cronut may have died down but the hype of The Grumpy Barista hasn't because they just keep cranking out innovative, vibrant and delicious dishes! Initially my friend's and I did not plan on going to The Grumpy Barista but the cafe we wanted to go had a power outage so it was temporarily closed. But I'm so glad that we ended up at The Grumpy Barista because the food did not disappoint and it ended up featuring on my Townske guide to some of Sydney's most colourful desserts- check it out: http://townske.com/guide/11970/rainbow-on-a-plate
Brioche toast | w/ ricotta, honey, macadamia, Persian fairy floss and edible flowers | $22
The brioche toast was as pretty as a painting! I was so hesitant in cutting and eating it but this dish isn't just all looks- it is packed full of sweetness, sourness, fruitiness, nuttiness.. everything ness.. :P This dish is quite big so I would highly recommend that you share it with a friend or you will end up with a major sugar high!
Baked Hot Pot with Chorizo
The experience at The Grumpy Barista was very enjoyable! However, the waiter who was very outgoing and friendly some of his comments to my friends and I were a little bit insensitive e.g. when the food came out he said to us "now I know you're Asian so please go ahead and get your cameras out.." We laughed it off but if he said it to the wrong people he would of been in a bit of trouble- we appreciate your friendly service but please be careful of your words :) Other than that the experience was great and I can't wait to go back and try out some new dishes to come!

Brainwave Pulled Pork Chips | Crispy & well seasoned beer batter chips topped w/ Massaman Pulled Pork | $5.00
The Brainwave Massaman Pulled Pork Chips were my absolute favourite dish that we ordered! The chips were thickly cut so you are able to pick up the pull pork. The Massman flavoured pulled pork was not too spicy but had a nice spice to it and the pork was very tender and juicy! This is definitely worth your money, these chips were only $5 and you get a mountain of chips and pulled pork! It's a shame that this is only for a limited time only- so hurry in to try it! :)
Summer In Tokyo | Fresh rolls of salmon sashimi and crab stick, fresh salad and wasabi mayo | $9.00
Out of the three dishes we ordered this dish was my least favourite mainly due to the extremely spicy wasabi mayo. Even though my friend requested for no wasabi mayo the staff must of forgotten and placed a generous amount. The rest of the ingredients was very fresh but I understand it would be quite bland without a sauce. The portion of the dish is not worth the $9 we paid for it so that was a little bit of a let down.
Coconut Sticky Rice | w/ Fresh Mango and Berries | $7.50
I've been eating a lot of sticky rice lately (at Glider KS and Haven- check out the previous posts) and I love it! Everything about this dish was perfect from the aromatic coconut sticky rice to the fresh mango and berries. The only thing that could of been improved is more sauce but other than that this dish is perfect as a dessert or main dish :)
Now to what we came here for- THE SOFT SERVE!! :D We were actually served by the friendly owner of Brainwave Cafe- Ann (HI!! :)) and she asked us how we found out about the cafe and we told her that we saw the famous Thai Milk Soft Serve on Instagram and that's why we came. Ann kindly gave us the soft serves complimentary :) THANK YOU! We got the Thai Milk Tea and the ONA Latte (Coffee flavour). The Thai Milk Tea definitely tastes just like the drink and is a lighter option than the ONA Latte which has a strong coffee hit to it. I enjoyed both of the soft serves A LOT!!

Thank you Ann for the complimentary soft serve and your kind hospitality! I wish you and your team all the best at Brainwave Cafe :) Everyone go check them and give them some love!! <3

Calling out to lovers of all things sweet, chewy, chocolatey, fruity, gooey, icy..! I was lucky to be invited to Passion Tree in the Chatswood Interchange to try their now launched Rock Melon Bingsoo. We were also treated with a range of different desserts that definitely gave all of us a sugar rush afterwards :P
Rock Melon Bingsoo | $20.00
This is what we came for and it didn't disappoint! The day of this event the weather was extremely strange, it was very hot and then an hr later it starts storming, so Sydney was left with a very humid and sticky sort of weather- but the Rock melon Bingsoo came to the rescue providing us with a refreshing dessert to help us cool down!
The Choc Honey Bread | $14.90
The Honeybread | $12.90
Peanut Butter Honeybread | $14.90
You can never go wrong with honey bread and especially when there are so many different variations! The honey bread is a good option if you want something sweet but not too sweet (you know what I mean). :P
Cookies & Cream Bingsoo | $14.60
The Banana Crunch Waffle | $14.90
The Caramel Popcorn Waffle | $11.00
One word to describe the waffles is sweet sweet sweet and I love it! If you're wanting something to satisfy your sugar cravings then I would recommend getting one of the waffles. I preferred The Banana Crunch Waffle because I love the chocolate and fruit combination, I feel a little bit healthier when there is fruit on the dish (just to make myself less guilty) :P
Passion Tree at the Chatswood Interchange serves up delicious and beautifully presented desserts worthy to be featured on any social media platform (shout out to all food bloggers arranging such a beautiful flat lay for all us!). Passion Tree keeps coming up with innovative and new desserts each month so keep your eyes open for what they have to offer :)

What's the best thing to do on a hot summer's day? Retreat indoors where there's a powerful air con, drink a cold refreshing drinks or two and eat delicious food- well look no further than Haven Tailoring Coffee Joyously!
Left: Perfume | Rose, lime, honey and cold brewed Jasmine | $6 (ended up being $2 because of lunch deal)
Fresh summer drinks to help us cool down from the heat! My drink was the Perfume- make sure to stir all the contents of the drink or you'll just get a strong kick of rose water and sourness. Perfect drinks for any kind of weather!
The Golden Dragon | Black sticky rice, mango, coconut sago, matcha pandan pond | $15.50
I decided to order The Golden Dragon because I wanted to eat something refreshing and light since it was so hot outside. The Golden Dragon was perfectly platted and when viewed from the top it actually looks like a dragon. The dish definitely ticked the box of being refreshing, this was mainly from the fresh mangoes. However, I did not enjoy the black sticky rice at all- the rice was actually quite hard and when mixed with the matcha pandan sauce and coconut sago there was a very strange texture and flavour. I did enjoy the coconut sago, matcha pandan sauce and mango combination- the flavours and textures blended well together. This amount on this dish was very generous, so I would recommend that you share it with a friend because me being a little pig could not finish this by myself :P
Genmaicha Tea Chicken Burger | Fried cabbage, almonds, sweet soy aoili, milk bun | $16.50
The stand out for at Haven was the service, from the moment we stepped into the cafe we were greeted by friendly smiles. Even though there was a little bit of a problem with out order (wrong dish) they graciously apologised and gave us the correct dish. Massive shout out to our friendly waitress! The food is a little bit on the pricey side but if you're looking for something different and innovative, Haven is the place to go.

Petal Met Sugar is a new patisserie and flower shop located in Woolloomooloo. It opened up its doors last year in October and has quickly gained attention all over social media. One of the main reasons is its beautiful created cakes and minimalist design of the cafe. However, looks is not the only thing that has captured everyone's attention, each individual cake is made with an array of carefully arranged ingredients bringing a packed full of flavour dessert!
We arrived on a sunny Friday afternoon looking for some sweets after our cafe run at Glider KS (see previous post). The cafe itself is quite small, one corner is the counter for the cakes and coffee and the back wall is for the flowers. There is also an open kitchen connected to it where you can see the pastry chef creating these beautiful cakes. There is only outdoor seating but luckily it is undercover. We ordered two desserts: Chocolate Candy Bar and the Terrarium. Both desserts were extremely photogenic and had unique flavours to them.
Chocolate Candy Bar | Chocolate flourless sponge, burnt butter ganache, praline feuiletine crunch, sprayed milk chocolate mousse | $9.50
The Chocolate Candy Bar was the dessert that I saw the most on Instagram, especially the famous 'pouring of the cream onto the cake' shot. The name of the cake says it all- a dessert that is packed full of chocolate goodness! This cake is quite rich but what I enjoyed about it was the different textures in it, from the smooth chocolate ganache to the crunchy praline feuiletine. The cream was also a good compliment to the cake because it lessened the sweetness of the chocolate.
Terrarium | Passionfruit finger lime panacotta, cocoa nib soil, baby lemon baim, edible flower garden, Callebaut 29.5% white chocolate | $9.50
The design of the Terrarium dessert definitely caught my eye at first. It does definitely resemble a real terrarium with its edible flowers and cocoa soil. At first we were eating this dessert element by element and when we hit the passionfruit finger lime panacotta we found it to be so sour! However, if you eat all the elements together it makes the passionfruit panacotta less sour. This was a very interesting dessert and it was very refreshing especially since it was such a hot day.
Overall, I really enjoyed both desserts at Petal Met Sugar but my vote will have to go to the Chocolate Candy Bar (you can never go wrong with chocolate!!). The price of the cakes were expected (around $6-$10) for the quality that you get. The service was reasonable- there wasn't much interaction with the staff other than ordering. I'll definitely be back to try more of Petal Met Sugar's scrumptious and beautiful cakes!

Happy New Year everyone!!! 2015 was an extremely busy year, hence the lack of blog posts (sorry!!) but I'm alive from the nightmare of uni projects and I aim to be posting a lot more this year! Less classes = more time for food adventures! :)
My friend and I both discovered Glider KS at the same time through Instagram and we were both drawn to their beautiful ceramic cups and plates! As a design student, I am instantly drawn to anything that looks aesthetically pleasing. Glider KS is located among the new transformed Kensington St, Chippendale. It is located within the Spice Alley lane way just off Central Park. I was so amazed by the complete transformation of this little area and I can see it growing to be a hot spot for great eateries.
Glider KS resides in one of the 16 heritage- listed terrace houses on Kensington St. It has a minimalist design, from white tables, floors and walls to wooden chairs and exposed brick walls, it is definitely an Instagrammers heaven for the perfect #minimalist photo :P
Left: Iced Coffee $4
The first thing that drew us to Glider KS was there beautiful ceramic cups and I remember saying to my friend "this is very photo worthy!" and it sure was! We both ordered cold drinks since it was such a hot day today. My friend ordered the iced coffee and I ordered the iced chai. I've never really drank much chai lattes or anything chai flavoured, so the taste of it was very unique to me and the consistency of the drink was quite watery. It was a satisfying drink in this hot weather.
Coconut sticky rice with strawberries and blueberries | $10
Since today was such a humid day, I wanted to eat something refreshing and light so I ordered the coconut sticky rice with berries. The sticky rice is not too sweet and is the perfect consistency- not too mushy/ sticky and not too hard. The berries were extremely fresh and not sour and complimented the sticky rice really well (I've seen on some other pictures that they put mango- depends on the day I guess). This dish was actually quite filling and very refreshing.
Avo Toast with feta, truffle honey & thai basil | $12
My friend ordered the avocado toast, at first I didn't realise it had so many different ingredients in it until I tried it. This toast has a combination of salty, sweet and spicy- my tastebuds were definitely confused! However, after awhile this dish really grows on you. And don't be deceived by the size of this dish.. it may look small but my friend was defeated by it and she eats a lot :P
Overall, it was a very good dining experience at Glider KS, we were greeted by friendly staff the moment we stepped into the cafe. The food menu is that extensive but if you're looking for a decently priced and filling meal- look no further than Glider KS. I can see Glider KS producing more and more new, innovative dishes throughout 2016 and I can wait to go back and visit to try their other dishes!

What do three good friends do for an overdue catch up? We FEAST!! It has been a long time since I caught up with my two good friend L & C, it took us a very long time to decide when to meet up so of course we had to choose a fancy place to dine at (but somewhere that didn't make our wallets cry :P). I've heard a lot about Bowery Lane and I've seen it splashed all over social media platforms like Instagram, judging from the menu (found on Zomato) and the photos on Instagram it seemed like the best place to go to grab good food that is reasonably priced.
We arrived at Bowery Lane on Wednesday night around 7pm and it was already buzzing with people. We were lucky enough to get a comfortable booth seat, that allowed us to talk as loudly as possible and take a million pictures of our food without being judged :P The menu has way too many options but we finally set on ordering the Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder- $55 (under the 'Share' category), Tempura Soft Shell Crab Burger- $24 ('Mains') and Hand-cut Sweet Potato Chips- $12 ('Snacks). Of course, we had to order dessert too- Jar of Nutella Cheesecake- $14 and the Coconut & Lime- $15.
Let the feast begin!
Slow cooked lamb shoulder | Smoked eggplant, lemon garlic dressing, watercress | $58
Even though we knew the Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder was under the 'Share' part of the menu, we didn't expect it to be that big!! This lamb shoulder can definitely more than 5+ people. The lamb meat was extremely tender and fell off the bone instantly. It was a little bit too salty on some parts but when dipped in the lemon garlic dressing the saltiness was less overpowering. For the amount/ size of the lamb shoulder I think it was worth the $55 and if you're going with a group of girls I would recommend that you order this if you have more than just 3 people :P
Tempura soft shell crab burger | Asian slaw, miso mayonnaise | $24
The Tempura Soft Shell Crab Burger was the one dish that caught my eye when looking at the menu before we arrived. I also saw a lot of pictures of it on Instagram! This was my favourite dish of the night. There was a generous amount of soft shell crab and it was soft in the centre and crunchy on the outside. There was no oily taste which is a major thumbs up in my books (I've eaten some soft shell crab that is just trenched in oil...). The Tempura Soft Shell Crab Burger is also served with a miso mayonnaise which can be added to the burger if you need more sauce. The size of the burger is quite large that we were able to share it among us three.
Hand- cut sweet potato chips | Whipped labneh pumpkin seeds | $12
The hand- cut sweet potato chips was on the hard side, it was quite under cooked so it wasn't as soft and fluffy like traditional chips. Nonetheless, eaten with everything else it was a nice compliment/ side dish to the main dishes.
Jar of Nutella Cheesecake | Vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate crumbs, raspberries | $14
Now to the best part- DESSERT!! My friends and I had one criteria when ordering the dessert, that is has to be "Instagrammable" and I think we chose the right desserts.. just look at them, it's so photogenic! :P The Jar of Nutella Cheesecake was a mix of creamy, crunchy, sweet and sour, it's a dessert that just has multiple elements in it making it a perfect dessert to end a heavy meal. Each scoop into the Jar of Nutella Cheesecake is a surprise has as you delve deeper into it you discover different elements.. maybe they should call is the Surprise Jar of Nutella Chessecake. I definitely recommend that you order this one.
Coconut & Lime | Meringue, coconut ice cream, lime curd & toasted coconut | $15
The Coconut & Lime dessert was very refreshing and light, compared to the Jar of Nutella Cheesecake. There was perfect balance between the acidity of the lime and the creaminess of the coconut. I can't really decide which dessert I like better because they were both unique but if you just wanted a light dessert to end a heavy meal I would recommend the Coconut & Lime dessert, but why not just get both? :P
Overall, I really enjoyed the dining experience at Bowery Lane, from the friendly and efficient service to the delicious food this is definitely a go-to place for me now! Bowery Lane is also open from breakfast, lunch and dinner, and they also do takeaway- winning!

The world famous Tella Shake | $10
I finally caved and hoped onto the bandwagon of trying this "World Famous Tella Shake"! I first saw this drink on Facebook and shortly after my cousin in Canada sent me a picture of this telling me to go and try it. This drink has seriously sent Netizens (the citizens of the Internet) into chaos and has gone viral across the world. Every time I would log into Facebook or Instagram I would see a picture of the Tella Shake at least once and pictures of the long queue.
My brother and I organised to meet my cousin for a long awaited catch up and we discovered that she lives right around the block from Foodcraft Espresso & Bakery. We arrived there around 11am on a Friday morning and there was already a crowd of people waiting for a seat. Luckily, the turnover of customers is quite quick and we only waited for 10 minutes for a seat. We were seated outside, which was quite cold, but the kind staff provided us with blankets.
Foodcraft Espresso & Bakery does sell other things besides the Tella Shake, such as this delicious Salmon and Eggs Benedict (pictured below). The menu has a variety of different dishes to cater for different taste buds, the hardest part was choosing what to eat!
Eggs Benedict | w/ Tasmanian Salmon and poached eggs on brioche bun | $16
The dishes came out really quickly, which was good because we were all very hungry! The portions are also extremely generous and worth the amount that you pay. The eggs were perfectly poached as the yolk was still runny and tripped all over the salmon and brioche. There was a very generous amount of hollandaise sauce and salmon, so by the end you are not just left with a plain bun.
The famous Tella balls aka. the nutella donuts that broke the Internet
So is it worth the hype?
That's the question I've been getting a lot.... and my answer is- the Tella Shake is literally what you think it is, a nutella donut on top of a nutella milkshake. It was definitely very tasty and bad for my health :P but I'm not too sure what the big hype was about. Nonetheless I enjoyed the overall dining experience at Foodcraft Espresso & Bakery- the service was great, the prices were reasonable and the food was delicious, so I'm definitely not complaining!
If you're not dying to try it maybe wait a few months for the hype to die down so you don't have to wait a long time for a seat or I recommend you go on a weekday in the morning. I'm excited for what Foodcraft Espresso & Bakery have to offer next! Good luck :)

Lately, I have been really enjoying all the new matcha centered cafes that are opening up in Sydney! Say hello to a new kid on the block that has taken matcha to whole new level, from the classic matcha latte to matcha burgers! I discovered One Tea Lounge and Grill through Instagram, there have been multiple photos are their famous Ice Cream Baogers and Matcha fondue. I quickly took screenshots of it and sent it to my matcha- loving and foodie friend which we then set a date and met at One Tea Lounge & Grill for good food and catch up.
Matcha Cappuccino | $7
The matcha cappucino definitely stood out to us when we saw it on the menu but it tasted very similar to the matcha latte, which was very creamy and not enough cappucino or matcha flavouring. However, it is a very creative drink combination and would love to see how they improve it over the next few months.
Matcha Latte | $7
I've been drinking bucket loads of matcha lattes during the holidays and there are some that are a hit and some that are a miss. This matcha latte was a little bit too creamy and milky but the barista was happy to take on our advice and criticism which was to add more matcha so make it less creamy, so it didn't taste just hot milk. Other than that, the matcha latte was a nice warm drink on a cold day.
Popcorn Curry Chicken | w/ green tea lime mayo sauce | $10
One Tea Lounge & Grill is a great place to share food with friends. My friend and I ordered the popcorn curry chicken and we absolutely loved it! It taste exactly like popcorn chicken from KFC with a kick of spice. It also comes with green tea lime mayo sauce, which tasted more like wasabi mayo sauce but the combination worked very well together.
One "Takocini" | Housemade fusion of Takoyaki & Arancini balls w/ green tea mayonnaise, bonita flakes | $9
The One "Takocini" is very similar to takoyakis but filled with rice instead a wheat- flour based batter. For what we got I do not think it was very worth it because we were only given 3 for $9. So if you're hungry I would recommend getting something much bigger but to share/ as an entree this is perfect.
Ramen Burger | Teriyaki Chicken | $13.80
Ice Cream Baoger | 2 x slider size fried baogers with ice cream (Green tea and Lychee) | $12
Matcha Fondue (for 2) | Fresh fruit, green tea castella, macarons, cookies w/ Matcha white chocolate dip sauce | $20
The matcha fondue is what we came for and was definitely not disappointed. The hot matcha was creamy and thick and perfectly paired with the fruit, cakes/ sweets that were provided with the fondue. One Tea Lounge & Grill are always keen to listen to your feedback and are willing to change elements of their dish to meet the needs of their customers!

Overall, a great dining experience at One Tea Lounge & Grill and a great opening. They still have a lot of room to improve and to create new/ anything matcha to their expanding menu! I look forward to going back to try the dinner menu.

The last time I visited Cafe Cre Asion was early last year (http://take-eat.weebly.com/food/cafe-cre-asion1) and it was the happiest day ever because I was looking high and low for this little cafe. Cafe Cre Asion was not very well known back then but it has no become one of the hottest go to places for brunch! I think the main reason might be is that they have really stepped up their Matcha (Green Tea) game, serving all things matcha from cookies to lava cakes. The green tea here is very authentic because it is bitter yet sweet and there is a strong flavouring of green tea taste in their drinks and desserts, as opposed to other places I have been to where the green tea is either very watery or extremely sweet.
My friend and I have been meaning to go to Cafe Cre Asion all semester but because of our busy schedules we never found the time. Now that it is the holidays we finally made the trip to our now favourite cafe and there was no regrets that day. Our eyes were definitely much bigger than our stomachs because we ordered a lot!! (As you can see from the images below) But we definitely had a lot of fun snapping pictures of the most photogenic dishes!
Matcha (Green Tea) Latte | $5
The beautiful bowl of green tea latte which was packed full of green tea flavouring which was creamy with a hint of sweetness and bitterness.
Poached free range chicken, chilli pickled Asian mushroom, iceberg lettuce, zucchini, white sesame and wasabi mayo | $11
Both sandwiches were packed full of meat and other ingredients and for what we paid for it, it was definitely worth it. The chicken sandwich had a lot of mushroom in it, there was so much it was falling out of the sandwich causing the whole process of eating it to be very very messy. Nonetheless it was a very tasty sandwich that so filling that I didn't need to eat dinner that night.
Master stock braised pork neck, pickled red onion, grilled cabbage, aged cheddar cheese, honey and whole grain mustard | $12
The braised pork neck sandwich was my favourite out the two sandwiches we ordered. The reason for this is that 1. I'm a major fan of anything pork 2. The pork was extremely tender and the complimenting elements in it were not too overpowering and went really well with the pork.
Matcha (Green Tea) Lava cake
I introduce to you one of the most instagrammed desserts of 2015- The Matcha Lava Cake! This is the main reason why my friend and I wanted to go to Cafe Cre Asion and we are definitely glad that we ordered this, even though our stomachs were about to burst. The matcha beautifully flowed out, once cut, and they even gave us an extra cup of matcha sauce to pour over the cake just in case we didn't have enough matcha already :P The matcha lava cake was just as good as the other matcha items that Cafe Cre Asion serves. This is definitely a must to order if you go to Cafe Cre Asion, you won't regret it!
Overall, everything at Cafe Cre Asion was perfect! From the food, interior to the extremely friendly and helpful staff! I highly recommend you go try it (everything on the menu is good!) I recommend going before peak hour lunch e.g. 12-2pm because it got quite busy when we were there around 12pm.
