I don't want to be a pie! I don't like gravy.
I've never been a major fan of pies but word has it that The Pie Tin serves up a range of delicious savoury and sweet pies that is a must try! Since I'm on mid- semester break I took the opportunity to catch up with friends at The Pie Tin.
The Pie Tin is located on Brown St (off King St) Newtown, it is approximately a 15 minute walk from the University of Sydney. It is a cute, rustic restaurant with a large share table in the middle and smaller tables to the side. There is a large range of pies and I think I stood at the counter staring at the pies for a good 10 minutes and then I took another 10 minutes deciding what to order :P My friend suggested a few that she had tried before but in the end I ordered the 'slow roasted shredded pork with apple and bbq sauce'. I also ordered it with sides- regular chips with gravy (extra cost). Ordering just the pie ranges from $5.80 -$7.80 and a pie meal ranges from $11- $13. The waitress asked me if I wanted kumera chips and I had no idea what it was.. shortly after discovering it was sweet potato chips!!! Now I definitely need to go back :P There are also other sides like mash potato, salad and baked beans.

The pie is a very generous size, it is definitely much bigger than a standard pie you buy at a food court or convenience store. I was also given a very generous amount of chips, they were even falling off my plate as I walked from the counter to our table. The pie I had was a bit try, there wasn't much sauce inside, which was a bit disappointing. But nonetheless it was very filling and the pastry of the pie was just right- not too crunchy or soggy.
This was the pie that my friend ordered, I think it was a chicken pie. But I just wanted to show you all the different sides that Pie Tin has to offer. I think she really enjoyed it :)
My other friends ordered- lamb, sausage.. I can't remember the others :P

Whipped Lime Pie | $7.50
This whipped lime pie has go to be one of the BEST lime pies I have ever eaten. It was not too sour or overpowering and the lime was very subtle. The top layer is cream so when you mix it with the bottom layer, the lime, you get a fine balance between the two flavours and texture. I highly recommend that you try this one :D
Gooey caramel & white chocolate ganache | $7.50
The 'Gooey caramel & white chocolate ganache' pie was extremely delicious but a bit too rich especially the white chocolate ganache. It tastes like a block of white chocolate with caramel all over it :P After a few bites I couldn't have anymore but for all you sweet tooths out there I think you'll enjoy this one :)
The slices of sweet pies range from $7.50 - $10.50 and you can also have the option to add vanilla ice cream ($1.00 extra) or/ and fresh dollop of cream ($0.50 extra).

Overall, I really enjoyed both the savoury and sweet pies at The Pie Tin. I can't wait to go back and try more pies :P
The place is quite small so I recommend you go earlier before the lunch break rush (before 12ish) or come after 2pm if you want to get a seat. There is always a take- away option.
A great place for pies that provide you with delicious and decently priced pies :)
Happy eating :)
