SUPERIOR BURGER | WAKELEY

I've heard so much about Superior Burger that I even messaged them on Instagram last year to see where I can purchase one of their shirts! (Unfortunately no luck :P) My friends have raved on about this place for a while but I never got the chance to make the trip out to Wakeley to try it. Conveniently,  Superior Burger is quite close to my church in Lidcombe (roughly around a  20 minute drive) so my friend suggested we go and taste it for ourselves.

Superior Burger is located in a small shopping area in Wakeley, at first you wouldn’t notice it because the carpark in front of the shops is much larger than the shops itself. The area was quite quiet but Superior Burger was buzzing with people so it is definitely not hard to miss. The décor and lighting is electric and has an old school diner feel and even better they play some awesome rnb mixes (good work to the DJ!). What I noticed is that the turnover is quite quick so don’t worry if you don’t see a table available at first, we were lucky enough to get a table that comfortably fits 3 people.  The menu is simple and honest, which I like, too often do some burger joints add too much weird and unnecessary ingredients that just don’t work. Between the 3 girls we were a little bit too ambitious and ended up ordering 2 burgers, fried chicken and large fries! So it’s safe to say we were extremely full and satisfied.

Hello friends! It's been awhile since I last blogged, to be exact it has been almost 2 years since I have touched this food blog. Where have I been? Adulting. A lot has happened these past 2 years from graduating university, travelling, spending time with my love ones to starting my first full time job. To be honest, I lost touch with why I began this food blog in the first place which was to share with everyone my love of food, what does it taste like and my overall experience dining at a restaurant. I became consumed with the Instagram world for awhile and every time I went out to eat I always just wanted that "insta- worthy" shot. I'm not going to lie but I still want to get that "insta-worthy" photo, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I needed to remind myself that it's seriously not all about the looks of a dish because some of the prettiest and photogenic dishes I have eaten have been the worst.  It is sad to see food become less about the taste of the food but rather how aesthetically pleasing it is. I think now it's time to get back in touch with the real stuff which is does this dish even taste good!? It's time to welcome back Take & Eat (I know I definitely missed this space a lot).

CALABUR CAFE & DINER | BONDI JUNCTION

One of the best things to do on a rainy Monday morning is to grab your food buddy, hide underground with a cup of chai latte... and Green Smoothie Bowl.. and Spaghetti Namtok Salmon.. wait what? Well you can do exactly this by making a trip to the new kid on the block- Calabur Cafe and Diner located on Spring St, Bondi Junction.

Calabur Cafe & Diner has only been opened for 2 weeks (opened on the 12 March 2016) but it is already showing up on every Instafoodies Instagram feed. Calabur is hidden under an office building just below the sidewalk of Spring St, it is next to/ below Danny's Cafe. Calabur has very homely and rustic feel to it and has a smart concept to it- Cafe by day with everything a cafe should have from coffee cups hanging from the shelves but at night they flip over the boards/ shelf doors to reveal shelves of bottles of alcohol. At this time, the creative minds behind Calabur are focusing on marketing their cafe concept and slowly they will start growing their bar concept over these few months.

The owner was extremely nice and had a nice chat to my friend and I. He explained to us that this has always been his dream to open a cafe and that business was quite slow at first but thanks to his food blogger friend who helped him with some Instagram advertising/ feature word has spread that this place serves up a new and fresh brunch to the cafe scene (I wish them all the best of luck!)  My friend and I ended up ordering a dish each- I went for the Green Smoothie Bowl and my friend got the Spaghetti Namtok Salmon... Now to the food!

Bacon & Egg Burger | Streaky Bacon, Egg, Hash Brown, Cheese, Baby Rocket & Homemade Aioli | $8
I  had to try out Belfield Burger because 1. It is so so close to home and 2. It has crazy and creative burger combinations like Vegemite mayo, peanut butter patty! When my friend and I were deciding were to eat she mentioned she was craving either fried chicken or burgers. When she mentioned burgers I instantly thought of Belfield Burgers because it is so close to her home. Belfield Burger is located on the busy Botany Road and the growing restaurant and cafe hub in Rosebery.

We arrived there on a Thursday evening, all hungry after a long day of work and what not. Since there was four of us we decided to order nearly every side dish (because we're all foodies :P)- Sweet Potato Fries, Deep Fried Mushrooms (the bees knees- awesomeness!), Crinkle Cut Chips and Tater Tots (Potato Gems). All the sides (besides the chicken wings) are $5 and come in a big bucket. I ended up ordering the Pork Burger ($12) which had a peanut butter pork patty, kimchi, green apple and homemade mayo- I decided to order this because the flavours in this burger just sounded so interesting and surprisingly all the different flavours worked very well together!

Reuben Hills has always been on my cafe recommendations list because of it's innovative dishes and friendly service. The last time I visited Reuben Hills was almost 2 years ago and of course new and exciting dishes are now featuring on the menu. My friend, who has been wanting to come here for a while, arrived here on a sunny Thursday morning for brunch. We were both quite hungry and we ended up ordering 3 dishes to share (cheat day all day everyday right? :P). We got The French Toast, Salmon Kokoda and The NOT Reuben sandwich. The menu is full of different options to suite everyone's tastebuds.

On this occasion, I wasn't particularly wowed by the food- in fact it was a little bit of a let down... a lot of burnt and overcooked food was served to us. I hope that it was just on this day the food wasn't as good as last time because I really like Reuben Hills..... Now to the food!

The last time I visited Strathfield was when the froyo (frozen yoghurt) craze was happening and that was a very, very, very long time ago! A now after a year or two I thought I give good old Strathfield aka. Stratty a visit and it has definitely changed a lot. There are a lot more new eateries besides Korean BBQ, there are more cafes, dessert restaurants and other cuisines. My sister in law and I were tossing up between Buttermelt Cafe or Chef's Palette and we ended up choosing Chef's Palette because there menu has a lot more variety but don't worry I'll definitely pay Buttermelt Cafe a visit in the near future. We ended up ordering two dishes- The Sweet Corn Fritters and the Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict. One word to describe both dishes is sweet. Strange hey? So let's find out a bit more about the dishes... Now to the food!

LEFT OF FIELD | RHODES

What do you do when you finish work early on a Saturday around the area? Grab a few friends and head off to brunch- that's what you do :P On a rare occasion, I finished work at a particularly earlier hour than other weekends and I happened to be around the Chatswood area and since I haven't seen my friends in awhile I suggested a brunch catch up. My friend and I have been talking about Left Of Field for a very very long time so I made the decent down to Rhodes (only less than 30 minutes drive from Chatswood) to check out this new cafe that's gained a lot of popularity since opening.

Left of Field is located among the many apartment blocks and in the growing suburb of Rhodes and it is right next to the being constructed Homebush Bay Bridge that will connect Rhodes and Wentworth Point together. I think once that bridge is completed Left of Field and the surrounding restaurants and shops are going to be getting a lot business and attention. Left of Field has a spacious interior and exterior seating area, since it was a nice and sunny Saturday afternoon we chose to sit outside. The menu is full of different and creative options to suite and satisfy any taste buds! Since there was three of us we ordered a lot.... I mean A LOT! We ordered two main dishes, one dessert and a side (more like a big bowl) of fries and of course coffee to sip on.

Now to the food...... (what you came for right? :P)

Parc Cafe is located on Clovelly Rd, just around the corner from Centennial Park, and is nestled among residential homes. Parc Cafe has a clean and minimalist theme to it but there is food is far from minimal, it is packed full of flavour and style. On a sunny Thursday morning my friend and I decided to make a little trip down to Parc to grab some brunch. The menu isn't as extensive as some other cafes but we were still having a hard time deciding what to order. We ended up ordering one sweet dish and one savoury dish- win win! We got the buttermilk pancakes and the potato cake and both dishes were winners in my eyes!

Calling out to all Martabak lovers, there is a hidden gem tucked in Ultimo that you must try now... NOW! Martabak Cafe Australia is a great place for anyone who loves Indonesian food or food in general and that should be everyone. The menu consists of savoury and sweet dishes and on this visit my friend and I decided to choose a sweet option. So you may ask What exactly is Martabak (or Murtabak)?? According to trusty Wikipedia- Martabak is a stuffed pancake or pan- fried bread which is commonly found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Yemen and India. Depending on the location the ingredients may vary significantly. My friend, who is Indonesian, told me that martabak is a very popular street food and is eaten commonly there- sweet and savoury.

There are different options to create and fill your martabak with and the instructions can be found below.

THE GROUNDS OF ALEXANDRIA | ALEXANDRIA

My favourite meal of the day would definitely have to be brunch! What is brunch? Brunch is a late morning meal instead of breakfast and lunch..... breakfast + lunch = Brunch! My friend who has been living here for around 3 years openly admitted that he has never been to the famous The Grounds of Alexandria before and when organising a long awaited catch up with our group of friends we both knew where to go. The Grounds is not only famous locally but also internationally, I've heard some people add this to there "must visit in Sydney places" list and I don't see anything wrong with that at all- The Grounds is definitely more than just a cafe.

I've been to cafe multiple times and it has been a love and hate relationship with it. On some days the food is awesome and other days it it just.... meh..... but the atmosphere is what always brings me back! On this occasion, the food wasn't a hit for me but everything else was perfect from getting a table as soon as we arrived (it gets super busy at peak hours!) to the super super friendly staff. Let's take a look at the food......
